Throttle control Volvo 240 (B20A/B19/B21/B23A)

A stiff accelerator pedal, play in the linkage or a gaswire that won't give full opening are classic symptoms when the control on a 240 starts to show its age. The mechanical throttle control consists of several small wear points, and it only takes a worn ball joint or a tired return spring for idle and full-throttle positions to become uneven.

This group includes product families for the entire mechanical control: gaswire, control rods, ball joints, springs as well as screw, washer and nut for mounting. Kick-related parts are also found here. Since the 240 was built with several engines – B19, B20A, B21 and B23A – the wire length and linkage geometry vary, so check the version against your engine.

During a rebuild, the ball joints and the joints of the control rods are typical inspection points: play there makes the pedal spongy. It's a good idea to replace the return spring at the same time so the pedal springs back cleanly and the shutter closes fully when you release the gas.
