The cruise control on the 240 from model year 1986-87 works with vacuum, and when it loses speed on an uphill grade or disengages on its own, leaking hose joints and a tired non-return valve are common check points. The vacuum tank should hold pressure even at idle – if it drops, the tank's seal and the nipple connections should be evaluated.
