Cracks in an aged vacuum hose or a leaking nipple are the most common reason a cruise control loses its grip on the speed and cuts out on an uphill grade. The vacuum-operated system on the 240 with the B19ET, B21ET and FT turbo motors is sensitive to the smallest leak, and a brittle grommet or a loose T-Pipe is enough to make regulation jerky.

This category gathers the wear parts that belong to the control itself and its routing: vacuum hoses, T-Pipes and nipples for the air passages, ball joints and grommets for the mounting, plus brackets, springs and nuts that hold the diaphragm unit in place. When troubleshooting it pays to start by replacing the entire hose routing and checking that the ball joint sits without play – the rubber parts are often hard and porous after decades under the hood. Once the air passages are sealed, regulation usually becomes smooth again and holds the set speed evenly.
