Oil mist on the block side, moisture around the valve cover or suspected leakage after a cylinder head overhaul are common reasons to inspect the seals on the B17 engine in the 240/260. When the cylinder head is lifted for decarbonizing or surfacing, the gaskets should always be replaced at the same time – old material rarely seals up again.
