When troubleshooting, it pays to check the sensor's thread and contact before condemning the gauge – a worn speedometer cable gives a jumpy reading, while a sluggish temperature sensor fools both the gauge and the cold start. Note that the four-cylinder 240 has its own sensors compared with the V6 cars.
