Front fender trim for Volvo 1800, 1800S 1967-, right

Loose moldings, oxidized chrome and moisture that has crept in behind the trim are among the most common flaws on the 1800ES wagon body. When a molding breaks loose, broken fasteners and rust attack in the sheet metal underneath often follow – which is why mounting and sealing go hand in hand with the molding itself.

The group includes trim moldings together with fasteners, screws, nuts, spacer sleeves, washers and junctions, plus sealant for installation. The junctions tie molding sections together, the spacer sleeves and washers keep the correct distance from the sheet metal, and the sealant keeps water out at the mounting points.
During restoration it is worth checking that the fasteners are secure and that the sheet metal under the molding is sound before a new molding is fitted – otherwise the moisture is forced back in again. Since only around 8,000 examples of the 1800ES were built, its rear and roof-mounted moldings differ from the earlier coupes, which makes the fit important.
