Valve mechanism Volvo B18

Worn cam lobes, rattling valve clearance and tired valve springs are classic symptoms of a B18 that has covered many miles. Since the B18 is a push rod engine (OHV), the entire valve actuation runs via the camshaft, push rods and rocker arms – every worn link results in lower compression and uneven running.

This group includes a camshaft kit and cam gear set for the valve drive itself, valve springs with washer and thrust flange for stable valve clearance, plus push rods, screw and hat plug belonging to the cylinder head's valvetrain. During a rebuild it is worth checking the cam lobe profile and the spring pressure at the same time – a worn camshaft together with weak valve springs is most noticeable at cold start and at high rpm.

The parts apply to four-cylinder B18 engines in the 140 series. Check the version against your engine before replacement, as single- and twin-carburetor versions may differ.
