Oil mist on the rear axle cover or a wet pinion seal dripping onto the exhaust pipe are typical signs that the seals in the Spicer M27 rear axle have worn out. When the pinion nut is re-torqued or the diff cover is opened during a rebuild, new seals and shims are needed so the preload comes out right again.
