Volvo 940/960 Hand brake
A stiff hand brake cable that binds or shoes that no longer grip are classic symptoms on these cars, and which parts fit is determined entirely by the rear axle type. The rear end comes in two versions – the solid rear axle and the later multi-link design – and the mountings, cable lengths and shoe sets differ between them. When overhauling the hand brake, the cables, hand brake shoes, adjusting screws and return springs are the typical checkpoints, often done together so the brake bites properly again.
