Inlet pipe Volvo 740 (B200F/G/B230F/G)
Rough idle, hissing air leaks and an unsteady cold start often begin at the inlet manifold, where a dry gasket or a crack in a seal ring lets in unmetered air. On the B200F (1,986 cc) and B230F (2,316 cc) the manifold sits tight against the manifold side, and the gasket faces and studs in particular are classic checkpoints when the intake is taken apart.

The group includes gaskets and seal rings, studs and screws, nipples, rod and spring as well as the throttle housing – that is, the components that belong together when the manifold is sealed against the manifold and the throttle section.
During a rebuild it is worth replacing the gasket and seal ring in one go, checking that the studs have not worked loose in the cover, and that the rod and spring keep the throttle housing steady. That way you won't have to chase unmetered air a second time.
