Valve mechanism Volvo B20A/B/D

Knocking valve clearance, dropping compression or increased oil consumption are classic signs of a tired valve train in the B20 engine. On this OHV design the camshaft controls the valves via pushrods and rocker arms, so wear can occur at several points at once – making it handy to have the entire chain of parts together.

The group includes camshaft kits and timing gear sets, intake and exhaust valves, valve guides, washers, pushrods and thrust flange. During a cylinder head overhaul it's common to check the play in the valve guides and the valves' sealing surface against the seat – if an exhaust valve leaks, compression drops and the engine runs roughly. If the camshaft is replaced, it pays to inspect the timing gear and thrust flange at the same time so axial play is kept in check.
