Since the 240/260 has disc brakes all around, the hand brake mechanism sits inside the drum of the rear brake discs, which makes a properly adjusted cable and a working return movement crucial for the shoes to seat evenly.
During a rebuild, a typical check point is that the cable's pull travel runs freely and that the adjustment can be taken all the way without the cable already bottoming out – otherwise it is time to replace the entire cable rather than over-stretching the mechanism.
