The group includes complete carpet sets and loose floor mats, jute felt that dampens and serves as an underlay, sill plates as well as decals. For installation there are fasteners such as screws, rubber buttons and push buttons – small parts that are often missing or brittle after decades and that otherwise prevent a new carpet set from sitting correctly.
A common checkpoint during restoration is to lift the carpet and inspect the jute felt underneath: if it is damp or crumbly it should be replaced before a new carpet is laid in, otherwise the moisture comes back and feeds rust in the floor panel.
