Shock absorber/Coil spring Volvo 1800
A sinking ride height, a bouncy rear end and oil seeping along the absorber tube are the clearest signs that the suspension and damping are getting worn on an 1800. Since the car has a solid rear axle on springs, fatigued springs show up both as a lower stance and as poorer road contact when cornering.

The spacers deserve extra attention – with them you fine-tune the ride height so the car sits level after new springs have settled.
If you are replacing the absorbers, it pays to check the anchorages and rubbers at the same time, because tired bushings otherwise quickly bring back rattle and clatter even with new parts fitted.
