Weak charging, a glowing charging control lamp or a generator that wobbles in its anchorage can point to worn bushings and a tired tensioner rather than the generator itself. On the 140 with B18A and B18B, the generator sits in an anchorage where belt tension is set via the tensioner – if the sleeves and bushings are worn out, the belt becomes hard to keep taut and the charging uneven.

When fitting, it is worth checking that the mounting ears are not cracked and that the wave washers provide the correct clamping force against vibration. Since the B18 cars are 12-volt systems, the voltage regulator should be checked together with the generator during troubleshooting.
