Cooling system Volvo PV/Duett (B4B) (1947-56)
Cracking radiator hoses, a thermostat stuck in the closed position and leaking gaskets are among the first things you encounter when a 444 with the 40-horsepower B4B motor (1414cc) is brought back into service. Keeping the cooling system at the correct working temperature is absolutely critical for a motor that has run for decades, and small parts decide whether it stays tight or not.

When overhauling the cooling system it is wise to replace hoses and clamps at the same time, check the thermostat's opening temperature and renew the gaskets in the same go – old rubber hoses often crack from the inside and aren't visible until they let go.
