Exhaust system

Rusted-through pipes, a cracked rear muffler and rattling hangers are among the first things to go on a 122 with the early B16 engine. Through the years 1957–61 the 1,583 cc OHV four sat in the car before the B18 and the 12-volt system took over in August 1961, and the exhaust line is sized for exactly that engine.

The group includes complete exhaust systems and separate mufflers, plus the parts you need once the pipe is to go back up: gaskets against the manifold, clamps and lock washers for sprung mounting, and screws, nuts and washers for joints and brackets. A common checkpoint when replacing is that the joint gaskets against the manifold leak and give a hissing sound – always replace them while the system is down anyway.
The lock washers and rubbers are wear parts well worth renewing at the same time as the pipes, so the new system hangs firmly without scraping the body or rear axle.
