Alternator Volvo Amazon (B20)
Weak charging, a bulb that glows dimly, or a battery that never quite reaches full charge can point to a tired generator or a voltage regulator that isn't closing properly. On the 122 with the B20 engine – introduced in August 1968 for the final model years – the generator sits in the 12-volt system that was introduced back with the B18. During a restoration, the condition of the tensioner and the belt tension are common check points, since a worn mount causes squealing and uneven charging.
