Knocking noises in corners and a bouncy rear end are common symptoms of an aged multi-link rear axle, and worn link bushings should then be a first checkpoint. In the 1995 960 revision, the multi-link design was supplemented with a transverse composite leaf spring, which means the mounting and attachment parts differ from the earlier version – check the model year before ordering.

This group includes bushings, anchorages and retainers for the links plus lock and flange lock nuts, washers, hex socket screws and safety rings needed when the mountings are loosened and retightened. Many of the lock nuts are single-use and should be replaced at disassembly. When the bushings are out anyway, it makes sense to inspect adjacent anchorages, since wear often travels between the link points.
