Rough idle, jerky throttle response and an illuminated engine light often start with the measuring of air and exhaust. On the transverse 5-cylinder DOHC engine in the 850, the mass air flow sensor controls fuel injection, while the lambda sensor fine-tunes the mixture according to the exhaust – both are classic wear points when the car uses more fuel or runs sluggishly on a cold start.
