Brittle radiator hoses, a leaking thermostat housing and a thermostat that sticks are classic wear points on the V6 motors B27 and B28. When the hoses dry out and crack or the clamps lose their grip, pressure drops, and then the temperature climbs quickly on a motor with four manifolds and a long coolant path.

The group includes radiator hoses, hose clamps, thermostat and plug together with gaskets, washers, O-rings and caps – the sub-families that seal and direct the flow around the V6. When overhauling the cooling system it is smart to replace the thermostat, hoses and seals in one go: with a new washer or O-ring at the drain points and sensors you avoid recurring drip leaks. Also check that the thermostat opens at the right temperature so that the motor neither boils nor runs too cold.
