A clogged air filter causes uneven running and pushes up fuel consumption, and on the injected B20E and B20F with Bosch D-Jetronic clean intake air is extra important since the system is sensitive to false air and dirt. Cracked intake hoses and tired hose clamps are a common check point during a rebuild – if unfiltered air leaks in past the filter housing the engine wears faster and the mixture becomes hard to get right.
