Heavy steering effort, a whining noise at cold start or oil drips under the front end can point to a tired power steering system. On the 940 with the V6 B280 engine the power steering pump is belt-driven, and both the belt and the pump are common checkpoints when the system becomes sluggish. Since the 700/900 cars are built around rack and pinion steering with servo pressure, tight connections are crucial to the feel in the wheel.
