The conical bushings in the control arm rods are the single biggest wear point in the front suspension on the 700/900 cars, and show up as a clunk under braking or unsteady steering. This category gathers the parts involved when the front suspension is to be refreshed on the 940/960 up to and including 1994.

The group includes control arms and control arm rods, conical bushings (also in polyurethane), sway bars, strut mount bearings, washers and buffers, plus shock absorbers and fasteners. Since the front suspension is built on MacPherson struts with rack-and-pinion steering, the strut's upper bearing, absorber and bushings are interrelated – if you replace the absorber it pays to check the bearing at the same time.
During a rebuild, conical bushings, the rod mounts and the strut mount bearing are typical inspection points. Polyurethane bushings give a tighter feel but a harsher ride than rubber.
