Brittle fasteners and dried-out molding anchorages are a common checkpoint when the original moldings start to come loose or rattle on a 244/264 from 1981–85. Plastic fasteners harden over the years and can crack when the molding is removed, and then it is rarely enough to just press the old one back in place – a worn anchorage should be checked and often replaced so the molding sits firmly again.

This category covers parts for exterior molding on the body and doors. The group includes trim moldings, embellisher and drip channels along with small parts such as fasteners, retainers, washers, screws and joint sheets. The drip channels above the doors are especially worth checking, as they direct water away and can otherwise hide early rust in the roof seam.
During restoration it is common to replace the entire set of moldings plus the mounting hardware in one go, so that seams are neatly hidden and no gap develops against the sheet metal.
