Air filter Volvo 240 (B19E/B21E/F) (-1978)
Uneven gas response and a sooty engine can point to a clogged air filter, and on the early 240 cars with B19E and B21E the intake side is a common check point during service. Cracked hoses and loose clamps let in false air, which should be checked at the same time as the filter element is replaced.
