Rear light Volvo 240/260 (US) (1979-84)

Dim or flickering rear lights on a US-spec 240/260 can point to oxidized contact surfaces and cracked circuit boards in the taillight rather than blown bulbs. The US cars 1979–84 have their own lamp layout compared with the European versions, so circuit boards, bulb sockets and taillights should be chosen by the correct version so that contacts and mounting points line up.

The group includes combination taillights and rear lights, bulb sockets and circuit boards, bulbs as well as gaskets, washers and nuts for the mounting. A common checkpoint during restoration is the circuit board behind the bulb socket – moisture and heat cause the conductor tracks to oxidize and give poor contact. A new gasket against the body keeps moisture away from the next circuit board at the same time.
