Cooling system water/Fan Volvo 164

A slipping or dry-cracked fan belt and a thermostat that sticks are classic causes of rising temperatures in the 164's inline-six. The B30 is basically a reliable motor, but the cooling system with its water-driven fan wears over the years, and poor belt tension quickly shows up in charging and cooling performance.

This category gathers parts for the belt and water drive around the water pump. The group includes the thermostat and its associated gaskets, seal rings and gasket sets, plus the fan belt and drive belt to drive the pump and generator. Screw and nut belong to the mounting.

During a rebuild, typical checkpoints are belt wear and correct tension, the thermostat's opening function, and tight gasket surfaces against the pump housing and thermostat housing. It's a good idea to replace gaskets and seal rings at the same time as the belt to avoid duplicate work.
