Rust always creeps into the same spots on a 140 or 164 – the lower edges of the fenders, the sills and along the spare wheel container in the trunk, where moisture and dirt collect. When the original sheet metal has rusted through, filler rarely does the job; the sound metal must be cut away and new plate welded in.

This category gathers repair panels that cover the common trouble spots on the 144/145 and 164: fender trim, side plating, sill plate and spare wheel container. The group also includes shield anchorage, hood anchorage and brackets, plus smaller repair plate for spot welding jobs.
Keep in mind that the 145 estate body has its own sills and rear section compared with the 144 sedan, so always check-measure against the panel you are removing. A typical checkpoint during restoration is where the shield anchorage meets the inner fender – if the anchorage is rusty, the new shield will never sit firmly.
