The transverse 5-cylinder DOHC engine drives the front wheels and the rear axle is built on the Delta-link – a clean departure from the rear-wheel-drive Volvo models and something that determines which parts fit. The five was offered with displacements from 1,984 cc up to 2,435 cc in sedan form and as a diesel, which makes the engine code important when ordering.
