Play in the gear lever and floating gear positions on a 240/260 with an M46 gearbox are often a sign of worn rubber bushings in the control rather than a fault inside the box. This category gathers wear parts for the linkage on the early model years up to 1978, where the control's dimensions and mounts differ from later updates – which is why the chassis number is worth checking when ordering.

The group includes rubber bushings, standard bushings, washers, catch, O-ring and seals as well as the gear lever gaiter and symbol strip. When bushings and gaiter are replaced at the same time, most of the play disappears, and an intact gaiter keeps dirt away from the control – a common check point when overhauling the gear linkage.
