Rusted-through pipes at the rear axle, a muffler that rattles against the underbody, or a leaking flange against the manifold are among the first things to make themselves known on the diesel models. This category gathers exhaust parts that fit the Volvo 240 with the D20 and D24 engines, where the pipe routing and mountings differ from those of the gas models.

The group includes exhaust pipes and mufflers as well as the sealing and fastening parts that go with the job: gaskets, brackets, studs, hexagon screws, washers, and lock nuts. When replacing, the flange joint against the manifold is a typical checkpoint – rusted-stuck studs and a hard old gasket make the joint leak and start to hiss. Expect to renew both the gasket and the fasteners while the pipe is down anyway, so you avoid new leaks right after installation.
