Rusted-through tailpipes, leaking welded joints and mufflers rattling against the floor panel are the most common reasons the exhaust system on an early 240 needs to be renovated. Condensation that collects in the mufflers makes them rust from the inside out, so the mufflers are usually the first to give up.

This category gathers the parts needed to build up the system on a Volvo 240 with B20A from 1976. The group includes exhaust pipe and intermediate pipe, tailpipe and mufflers, along with clamps, mounts, washers and screws that hold everything up and seal against the manifold. Since the system is often replaced in sections, it is smart to check the mounts and rubber hangers at the same time – worn rubbers let the whole pipe hang crooked and put strain on the welded joints.
During installation, new clamps and washers are cheap parts that save a lot of work, since old joints can rarely be loosened without breaking them off.
