Fuel starvation on hot starts or hesitant throttle response on a B20A is often caused by a tired diaphragm or a leaking gasket in the mechanical pump, which is driven by an eccentric on the camshaft and feeds the single Stromberg CD 175 carburetor. A common check point during a rebuild is the spacer washer thickness and the condition of the gaskets – the wrong stack-up here gives either too low a pressure or an oil leak at the pump foot. Also check that the hoses have not hardened and cracked.
