Camshaft B18/B20 – S profile

The S profile is a pure race camshaft for those who want maximum power from their Volvo B18/B20. With a full 12.42 mm valve lift and a tight lobe separation angle of 101°, it delivers a powerful top end and a distinct competition character. The tight lobe separation angle gives a large valve overlap, which is clearly noticeable both in how the engine runs and in the power high up in the rev range. Usually used together with twin carburettors.

Important when fitting

Always fit new cam followers together with the camshaft, and lubricate the camshaft and followers with running-in paste (molybdenum disulphide grease) before the first start. A new camshaft run in against worn followers is quickly damaged – so the warranty only applies if new cam followers are purchased and fitted at the same time.

The camshaft nut is tightened to 80 Nm (8 kgm) and secured with a tab washer or thread locker (Loctite).

We also recommend an oil with zinc additive during running-in and normal use, which protects the lobes and followers against wear – for example Kendall 20W50 or 10W40.

Remember to add
New cam followers and running-in paste are a requirement for the warranty. It is also a good idea to check the valve springs, camshaft bearings and timing gear set while the engine is apart anyway.
