C camshaft B18/B20

The C profile is the original camshaft for B18/B20 engines with twin carburettors (B18B, B18D, B20B, B20D). This is the right choice if you want to keep the engine's original character, or to replace a worn original camshaft with one that follows Volvo's original specification. The C profile can also be used for a moderate power increase in engines with a single carburettor.

Important when fitting

Always fit new cam followers together with the camshaft. Lubricate the camshaft and followers with running-in paste (molybdenum sulphide grease) before the first start. A new camshaft run in against worn followers is quickly damaged, which is why the warranty only applies if new cam followers are purchased and fitted at the same time.

Tighten the camshaft nut to 80 Nm with thread-locking compound (Loctite).

We also recommend an oil with a zinc additive during running-in and in normal use. It protects the cam lobes and followers against wear. Suitable oils include Kendall 20W50 or 10W40.

Recommended additions
New cam followers and running-in paste are required for the warranty. While the engine is apart, it is also a good opportunity to check the valve springs, camshaft bearings and timing gear set.
