Master cylinder Volvo 940/960 (With ABS)

A pedal that slowly sinks toward the floor at a red light, or a spongy pedal feel despite a freshly bled system, can point to internal leakage in the master cylinder. On the 940/960 with ABS this is a common checkpoint, since all of the pressure from the pedal passes through this part before it is distributed to the four disc brakes.

This group includes master cylinders, washers and strainers as well as brake fluid reservoirs – families that cover both rebuilding and replacement. When replacing, it is important to verify that the version matches an ABS car, as the connections and reservoir can differ from systems without ABS. Also keep in mind that the bleeding sequence differs on these cars; always confirm the correct sequence before topping up with fresh fluid.
