Fuel system Volvo 850

Rough idle, jerky throttle response and an illuminated engine light often start with the measuring of air and exhaust. On the transverse 5-cylinder DOHC engine in the 850, the mass air flow sensor controls fuel injection, while the lambda sensor fine-tunes the mixture according to the exhaust – both are classic wear points when the car uses more fuel or runs sluggishly on a cold start.

This category gathers parts that keep the flow tight and the readings correct. The group includes the mass air flow sensor and lambda sensor, vent hoses and hoses for the fuel tank, flame shield, nipples, retainers and bushings. Cracked rubber hoses and dried-out vent hoses are common finds during restoration and cause a fuel smell or a car that is hard to fill.

When you replace hoses, it is smart to check the nipples, retainers and bushings at the same time so the lines sit firmly against the body and tank without chafing. The families here fit the 850 across all model years and cover both the engine bay and the route down to the fuel tank.
