Leaking valves, increased oil consumption and knocking valve clearance are among the most common wear points on the inline-six B30E/F. When the guides start to develop play, the engine draws oil past the valve stems, and worn valve springs cause rough running at high rpm. The group includes exhaust valves, valve guides, valve springs and complete valve sets, together with a cam gear set, thrust flange, washers and nuts for the camshaft drive. During a cylinder head job, the play in the valve guides and the length of the springs are typical check points – replacing them at the same time gives you even compression and a stable idle. The B30E was fitted with D-Jetronic injection, and tightly sealing valves are essential for the injection to work correctly.
