Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal Elring– Volvo PV, Amazon, P1800, 140, 164, 240, 740, 760, 940
Rear radial oil seal for the crankshaft, fitted on the clutch side. The seal prevents engine oil from leaking past the rear of the crankshaft and reaching the clutch.
When replacing the clutch, it is recommended to inspect the rear crankshaft oil seal and replace it if necessary, as an oil leak can contaminate the clutch disc.

Important for Older Volvo Models
Older Volvo PV, Amazon, P1800, 140 and 164 models may originally be equipped with a felt crankshaft seal. On these engines, this radial oil seal can only be used if the engine has already been converted to a radial oil seal, or if the engine was originally equipped with the later radial seal design.
Engines that still use the older felt seal require a conversion kit to use a radial oil seal.
Related Part

- Used as a replacement seal after conversion from a felt seal to a radial oil seal
- Part 1218634 is manufactured in Sweden by CVR
Good to Know
With the gearbox and clutch removed, the rear crankshaft oil seal is easily accessible. This makes clutch replacement a good opportunity to replace an old or leaking seal.
Also inspect the crankshaft sealing surface for wear or grooves before installing the new oil seal.
