Wool Felt Seal for Rear Crankshaft – Volvo B4B, B14, B16

Wool felt seal for the rear crankshaft seal on Volvo models with B4B, B14 and B16 engines. The seal is fitted around the crankshaft and helps keep the engine oil inside the engine.

2 felt seals are required per car.

Important information for installation

The felt seal must be thoroughly saturated with clean engine oil before installation. It must not be installed dry.

If the felt is dry when the engine is started, high friction occurs against the rotating crankshaft. This can quickly damage and harden the felt, reducing its sealing ability and causing oil leakage.

Place the felt seals in a clean container with engine oil and allow them to absorb the oil for at least a few hours, preferably overnight, so that the felt becomes thoroughly saturated.

Installation

Press the two felt seals firmly and evenly into their grooves in the seal holder/end cover.

The felt should protrude slightly at the ends after being pressed into place. This slight excess allows the ends to press against each other when the parts are assembled, helping to create a tight joint.

Do not cut the felt too early or too short. If adjustment is necessary, remove only the absolute excess with a sharp razor blade. Leave approximately 1 mm protruding so that the felt still has a slight excess when installed.
