Wool Felt Seal for Rear Crankshaft – Volvo B16

Wool felt seal for the rear crankshaft seal on Volvo models with the B16 engine. The seal fits around the crankshaft and helps keep the engine oil inside the engine.

Important information for installation

The felt seal should be saturated with clean engine oil before installation, rather than filled with ordinary grease. Preferably soak the felt seal in engine oil for 24 hours before installation, allowing the wool to absorb the oil thoroughly.

A dry felt seal can be exposed to high friction and heat when the engine is started, which can damage the seal and cause oil leakage.

Also lightly lubricate the crankshaft sealing surface with clean engine oil before installation.

Installation

Press the felt seal evenly and firmly into its groove. A round object approximately the same diameter as the crankshaft can be used to shape and press the felt evenly into the groove.

The felt may have a slight excess length at the ends. This helps create a tight joint when the parts are assembled. Do not cut the felt unnecessarily. If adjustment is required, remove only a very small amount so that a slight excess remains when the seal is installed.
