Volvo 700 Rear axle

A whining final drive, play in the gear backlash or a droning wheel bearing are the most common reasons for opening up the rear axle on a 700 car. This category gathers the parts needed when the pinion is to be reset and the axle rebuilt with the correct preload.

The group includes bearings and gears together with adjusting shims, shims and spacer washers that control gear contact and bearing preload, plus bushings, screws and O-rings for sealing and mounting. During a rebuild, the shims and spacers are exactly the checkpoint that determines whether the final drive runs quietly – measure wrong and the noise comes right back. Measure the original pack before disassembly and note the pattern position on the pinion, so the assembly is right from the start.
