Rattling at idle or an alternator that has drifted out of position can point to worn mounting bushings or a loose bracket – common checkpoints when the belt starts running off line. This category gathers the mounting parts around the alternator on the Volvo 700 series, including the 740, which throughout uses a 12V system with negative ground.

The group includes retainers, brackets and bushings that carry the alternator against the engine block and take up vibration during charging. During a rebuild it is worth checking that the bushings have not cracked and that the bracket mounting sits without tension, so that the belt grooves stay aligned. Measure against your existing part and verify the engine option on your car – the mounting can differ between the alternator variants in the 700 series.
