Ticking valves, rough idle or incorrect valve clearance after many miles are among the classic reasons to get into the valve mechanism on a B17. The clearance drifts with wear and heat cycles, and that is when the adjustment shims decide whether the valves close properly against the seats.

This category gathers the parts around the valve train for the Volvo 240/260 with B17 motor. The group includes valve adjustment shims and adjustment shims in different thicknesses to set the clearance, valve guides that take up play in the valve stems, plus studs and flange nuts for mounting. Here you will also find hat plugs, spacer tubes and washers that belong to the same job.
While you have the valve cover off anyway, it is a good time to measure the play in the guides and to check that the right shim set is on hand before the clearance is set – that way you avoid splitting the motor twice.
