A brittle plastic grille that no longer directs the air, or an air duct that gives poor flow to the window, are common checkpoints when the defroster and ventilation in a 142/144 are not working as they should. The plastic stiffens over the years and the mounting points can crack, so it pays to check both the grilles and the hose connections when restoring the heating and fresh-air system.
