Play in the steering wheel, oil seepage along the steering box or steering that feels sluggish are common reasons to go into the steering worm on a 122 with B18. The recirculating worm should be filled with SAE 80 hypoid oil and checked regularly – a dry-running or leaking box wears quickly and produces play that can't be adjusted out.
