Play in the steering wheel, wandering steering and unevenly worn front tires often start with worn tie rod ends and rod ends. On the 122 the engine generation determines which parts fit, since the change from B16 to B18 (August 1961, at the same time as 12 volt was introduced) was followed by an updated front axle. That is why the parts are grouped by B16 and B18 so that the right steering tie rods and tie rod ends end up on the right car. When overhauling the steering, the tie rod ends, steering tie rods and rod ends are typical inspection points when you are looking for play and worn-out rubber.
