Fuel sender unit O-ring for Volvo 240, 260, 262, 79 mm

O-ring that seals between the fuel tank and the fuel sender unit on Volvo 240, 260 and 262. The inner diameter is 79 mm. Always replace the seal when the sender unit is removed from the tank.

On cars up to and including 1978 two sizes occur. The smaller has an inner diameter of 61 mm and does not fit here. Measure the old seal or check the flange on the sender unit before ordering.

Installation

Empty the tank to below half volume before lifting the sender unit. Clean the sealing groove in the tank and the flange on the sender unit of old rubber and dirt. Place the new o-ring dry in the groove and tighten the lock ring evenly. Check for leaks before driving.

The lock ring for the sender unit is a separate item and is not included.

How do I know if I need the 79 mm seal or the smaller one?

From 1979 the 79 mm seal is fitted on all cars. If the car is from 1978 or earlier, two sizes exist: this one at 79 mm and a smaller one at 61 mm. Measure the inner diameter of the old seal or the flange on the sender unit before ordering.

Is the lock ring for the sender unit included?

No. The lock ring holding the sender unit in the tank is a separate item and is not included. It is often rusty and may need replacing at the same time.
