Construction and features
The brake drum is made up of several parts, just like the original. The cast drum is press-fitted onto a steel hub and then machined to exact tolerances.
This construction provides better durability than simpler one-piece designs and withstands higher loads, even under more demanding driving.
The design also makes it possible to refurbish wheel hubs by replacing only the drum once the wear limit has been reached.
Please note
On the Volvo PV444 and PV445 Duett up to approx. 1957, wheel studs with different thread directions were used. New brake drums are supplied with right-hand threaded wheel studs, which may mean that new wheel nuts are required.
Fitting information
The contact surfaces between the axle shaft and the drum must be clean, dry and free from rust and grease.
Fit the drum so that the keyways in the axle shaft and drum are correctly aligned. Check that the key fits correctly and adjust if necessary.
Insert the key with the chamfered side facing upwards and inwards towards the wheel bearing.
Tighten the castle nut to 120 Nm and continue until the split pin hole lines up. Then fit the split pin.
Always check model, version and fitting before installation.
